Inroducing Kevin - Your next backyard bestie! 🤎

Kevin is a 7 year old neutered male goat with a heart as big as his personality! This Anglo-Nubian x Boer mix is a real standout! Not just because of his striking tri-color coat, but also his easygoing, friendly nature.

He is a confident, happy-go-lucky guy who takes life in stride. Whether it's meeting new goat friends or exploring his surroundings, not much fazes this charming fella, he has great manners around fencing and is wonderfully social with other goats, making him a great addition to an existing herd. One of his most unique features? He’s missing one ear from an old injury - but it only adds to his quirky charm and character.

Kevin loves grazing on greenery and snacking on leafy twigs, perfect for someone with a bit of land or a love for pasture companions. With his affectionate, outgoing spirit, Kevin is sure to bring plenty of joy, smiles, and a little bit of mischief to your home.

Please note: In accordance with the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS), new owners will need a Property Identification Code (PIC)—these are simple and free to obtain.

Ready to welcome Kevin into your paddock and your heart? He’s ready for his forever home!

Meet Barney - A truly special soul seeking his forever family 🖤

Barney is no ordinary good boy - he’s a resilient and loving companion who’s been waiting patiently for his second chance at happiness. This handsome Bernese Mountain Dog mix has spent a long time in care, and we know it’s finally his time to shine.

Barney’s past wasn’t easy. He came to us underweight and weary from life’s challenges, but with time, care, and kindness, he has blossomed into a calm, affectionate boy with a big heart. His gentle soul thrives in a peaceful environment where he feels safe and loved.

Due to past negative experiences with other dogs, Barney would do best as the only pet in the home. He can be a bit defensive about his space, but with patience and understanding, you’ll uncover a loyal and deeply devoted companion.

Barney is also best suited to a home without young children, ideally with no kids under 12 - where he can relax and settle into a calm, predictable routine.

This long term resident has waited far too long for the right person to see just how special he is. If you can offer Barney a stable, quiet home filled with compassion and love, he’ll reward you with a bond like no other.

For people who have been following the debate on salmon and certification by RSPCA Australia, below are a few words from CEO Rich Mussell. RSPCA member societies work together on shared projects and utilise knowledge and skills, but we have our own boards of directors and programs. The Approved Farming Scheme is a project of RSPCA Australia and is managed by that member society.

" THERE'S been a lot of public interest in the RSPCA Approved Standard for farmed Atlantic salmon over the last few weeks.

Recently, we made the difficult decision to withdraw certification for the one producer who was certified to the Standard.

I'd like to explain what's happened and what the future looks like.

On March 5, footage aired showing inhumane handling of live salmon, following a challenging disease outbreak in southern Tasmania affecting thousands of fish.

When we saw this footage, we were horrified. We immediately initiated a 14-day suspension of Huon Aquaculture's certification to allow us time to investigate.

On March 20, we announced that Huon's RSPCA Approved certification had been withdrawn effective from the end of the 14-day suspension period.

What this means is that there are currently no salmon producers certified to the RSPCA Approved Standard. In other words (following a short period where the logo will still be on some products, for practical reasons), you won't see the RSPCA Approved logo on salmon products.

I want to be very clear, though - we still have an RSPCA Approved Standard for salmon, and we believe it's very important that this remains. Salmon are one of the most intensively farmed animals and it's important that we can demonstrate the measures needed to ensure their welfare is considered.

But we often get asked - why would the RSPCA have a standard for salmon, when salmon are so intensively farmed?

The answer is, that's exactly the point - we have a small number of animal welfare standards currently and they're all focused on where we can make the most difference for farmed animals. That includes some of the most intensively farmed animals like meat chickens - and yes, salmon. Over the last several years, we've seen repeated calls to drop the certification program for salmon altogether. But we know that would be the wrong thing for animal welfare.

And sadly, these calls often don't consider the welfare and sentience of the fish.

A survey of Australians in 2018 found that 23 per cent considered fish to be sentient (i.e., capable of feeling pain and suffering), and 52 per cent considered fish somewhat sentient (with 25 per cent saying ‘not sentient') - a much lower percentage than other animals farmed for food, like cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens.

The fact that fish are sentient - capable of feeling pain and suffering - is often ignored in the public debate, particularly when it comes to issues like managing wildlife incursions.

Our certification scheme will never be perfect, nor will it address every issue comprehensively.

But we know that all our decisions are solely focused on improving animal welfare - that's what the RSPCA Approved Farming Scheme, and the RSPCA in general, is all about."

UPDATE: MISS ISABEL HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

Hello, I'm Miss Isabel and I'm ready to find my forever family!

After retiring from racing, I embraced the good life in a loving home, where I discovered the joy of couch naps, gentle strolls, and plenty of affection. Though my circumstances changed, leading me to the shelter, I'm still the same sweet, loving girl, eager to find a new place to call my own.

I’m a dream on the lead, making walks a pleasure, and while I adore relaxing, I also have playful moments - expect some joyful zoomies in the yard! I get along well with other dogs, but due to my past as a racer, I’m not suited to homes with small animals.

We offer a one month foster-to-adopt period, so we can all make sure it’s the perfect fit. Plus, when you adopt a greyhound from RSPCA Tasmania, you’ll receive a special orange collar with a unique number - important for visits to greyhound off-leash areas in Kingsborough and Launceston.

Miss Isabel can’t wait to meet you! 🐶❤️
